I visited Baldwin today and was glad to find a non-threatening, over pressured atmosphere. I went in to test drive two models. Selina, my advisor, was pleasant, honest and had good knowledge of Subaru even though she was new to that world. I made a purchase because of all of these factors. Her manager was also very easy to work with.

In my opinion, this dealership is a joke from the salesman we had to the owner. From the time we negotiated a price on our used car purchase to delivery of our vehicle it was a nightmare. First, a price was negotiated for purchase and at that time we discussed what we wanted fixed on the used car before we would take it. Well, as soon as they found out we were paying cash things changed. They then refused to fix what was promised. We were told the struts all around would be replaced and the cracked leaking taillight would be replaced. While the car was in the shop for repair we completed the paperwork. Afterwards, we were told that when they had the car up to replace the struts they only did the front ones because that’s the only ones that looked bad. They also brought it around without the twilight being fixed. I might add that the windshield wipers were also terribly worn but we would replace them ourselves later. When my husband and I asked for the owner after not getting what was promised he was very arrogant and didn’t seem to really care. When I told him that the struts were not done as promised he said he would right a note promising me struts for the rear when and if they go bad. He scribbled it in a piece of paper as if hastily written just to try to appease us. He asked me Sooo, you want me to lose money I then asked him the same question for ourselves. We also heard a conversation between 2 salesman that they were already losing enough money by us not financing the vehicle.

The vehicle I purchased is a 2008 Subaru Outback wagon with approximately 42,000 miles. I might add during test drive I noticed the dash cracked and put back together but the salesman claimed he didn’t know what happened.

I later looked up the car fax as the receptionist was kind enough to print for me and the car fax said mild to moderate damage. And they didn’t know? Just an overall horrible experience. I would not recommend this dealership to anyone especially if you expect a pleasant experience with truthful, honest answers and repairs done a promised. My opinion is this is a very dishonest dealership that doesn’t like when buyers pay cash!!
Beware. Take your cash elsewhere.

THE ONLY REVIEW YOU NEED TO SEE!

You know, it's been several years since I bought my 2010 Subaru Impreza WRX STi SE from Baldwin Subaru, but I received my "Happy Anniversary" email from them today and I felt compelled to write a review of this outstanding dealership.

I had just gotten out of the military a few months before and at 24 years old had only ever driven family hand me down type vehicles, but when I saw the LA Auto Show promo pic for the 2010 STi SE I knew it was time to pull the trigger on a car that I had dreamed of owning since I was a teen. The only problem was that this particular model was a limited run of 125 production units. I immediately assumed I would be looking at paying some unspecified amount above the MSRP as I began calling around dealerships in the Texas/Louisiana area. At the time I was working away in Minnesota, so I couldn’t just walk into a dealership and have a face to face conversation with any of these dealers.

Anyway, I must’ve called 6 or 7 dealers to inquire about the car, and I got responses ranging anywhere from, “you’re definitely going to pay far above MSRP,” to, “keep dreaming.” I basically had dealers laughing at me for wanting to get my hands on one of these cars. Then I called Baldwin Motors in Covington, Louisiana and John Baldwin Jr. answered my call. Basically, John had a conversation with me about how he and his family raced these cars on the weekend and how passionate he was about Subaru and motorsport in general. We must’ve talked at least 45 mins to an hour. The thing that struck me about John Jr. was that he was sincerely passionate about these cars and about making sure his customers got exactly what they wanted. There was never even an inkling of pressure to make a sale or to put me in anything other than exactly what I was wanting. He was courteous, respectful, and unlike other dealerships, he took me serious about wanting this car.

By the end of the call I had put down an approximate $1k deposit just to get the ball rolling, as this car wasn’t even in production yet. After the deposit was placed, I was told that John Sr. wrote several letters to people at Subaru on behalf of me to ensure that I got this car. That, to me, is above and beyond service to me, and it made a very lasting impression on me. John Jr. actually agreed to sale this limited production car to me below ask price. I was shocked and thoroughly satisfied with my experience and still tell people all over the country that, if they are looking for a Subaru, make the trip down to Covington, LA and pay Baldwin Motors a visit. You’ll be glad you did.

My wife and I purchased a 2017 Nissan Pathfinder SV on 12/4/2023. The car had 2 repairs needed - a new windshield, and a plate on the liftgate that housed the camera and hatch release buttons. We were given a discount to cover the cost of getting the windshield repaired ourselves, and were ensured that the liftgate part should arrive early the following week. We are now 13 days out, and the part still has not arrived. Also - we were told that the vehicle had been through a 155 point inspection, but when we got home, we noticed that they hadn't emptied the glove box, since there was a stack of the previous owners' papers in there, including a packet of personal checks. Also, one of the battery terminals was completely corroded and had to be replaced. Finally, one of the key fobs given to us didn't even go with the vehicle. We haven't reached out to the Louisiana DMV yet, but are also a bit concerned about a large fee that were charged, as well as an optional Gap fee that we were unclear about. Quite honestly, our salesperson was just encouraging us to electronically sign all of the purchase documents without reviewing them in detail.

UPDATE: We spoke with Lindsey at Baldwin Motors,named they offer to reimburse us for expenses that we incurred to make our vehicle safe. They also were very apologetic about our experience, and ensured us that this was not the way that they transact business.

We believe that this was, perhaps, an isolated incident, and believe that they will be diligent in their efforts to improve customer service.

Not many good experiences at car dealerships to brag about these days, but I just had the best ever at Baldwin Motors this past week! I lost my home and three vehicles in a total loss fire in early April and replacing vehicles in the current market has been exhausting. Had a really bad experience with a local dealer here in the Panhandle of FL that didn't understand me when I said I just wanted a test drive and a buyer's order with bottom line price out the door. No time or patience to haggle or play games. So when I heard back from the good folks at Baldwin Motors about a 2019 Tahoe on their lot I had seen on Autotrader, I was very jaded. But they restored my faith in car dealers, at least in them! They sent me an agreement with a reasonable out the door price immediately, got all the paperwork taken care of before I arrived (I live 3 1/2 hours away) and made the experience so quick and easy I'm still amazed. Their people are honest, kind and straight forward, my Tahoe is in excellent condition and their dealership is over all top notch! Can't recommend them highly enough. And my salesgirl K'Tara made it all even better. I was in and out, all paperwork signed, in 10 minutes on Wednesday. Out the door with detailed Tahoe and full tank of gas! Rock stars at Baldwin Motors!

T'Kara Dixon did a fantastic job ! She made sure that we were aware of the many safety and convenience features of the vehicle before we left the dealership. Since I hadn't bought a new car in the last ten years, this was extremely helpful. Her attention to detail and her communication skills made purchasing a new car a very pleasant experience.
