Loved this place. Great views, peaceful, clean and well equipped. Ideal if you have a car to explore the Dales. Can visit Dent, and Hawes in the evenings. Train was great to get to local stations or Carlisle. Grandson loved it as loves trains and the local viaducts. Will definitely go again.

Being the highest station in England, can get pretty windy & rainy, so wrap up well. But being on the Settle to Carlisle line, tourists are catered for better than normal Network rail stations; plenty of info., local buses run from here, station upkeep much better than non FoSCL stations.

The highest mainline station in England. Lovely station buildings and stunning views along Dentdale make the steep walk worth it. Arten Gill viaduct can also be seen on the walk up from Cowgill.

Typical railway station but standing at 1150 ft above sea level, this railway station is the highest railway station in England.

Hi, I stayed at the adjoining accommodation at the weekend and made use of this station as I was reliant on public transport. There are about five stopping trains both up and down during the day. So it's very important to make sure you don't miss your train as you could end up hanging around for a number of hours with very little to do as there is no phone signal or internet and the village the station is named after is some five miles away; that's the only negative really. The station is well kept and maintained; while I was there some volunteers were attending to it. If you turn your back on the southbound platform you get some glorious views. I am unlikely to return as I have explored the area pretty much now as far as I can, but if you are a hiker/camper or such you will probably enjoy coming and going from here - I could see a campsite down in the valley about a mile away. If you are a trainspotter like myself you will also enjoy seeing the freight and excursion trains that pass through here and if you wave - if you are lucky - you will get a hoot back! Incidentally my accommodation in the Snow Hut was very pleasant too and I had no complaints.

Is there anywhere in the whole of these British isles as beautiful as this area. Difficult to get to by road but well worth the journey to this highest station in England, fabulous.

On a clear day, fabulous views of the Yorkshire dales and tops, paths can be a little wet in places so choose a dry day to go climbing amongst the tops
